Progress/Breakthrough

Just a summary of our day...for those there and not to see..

Invites rather than an open show. 42 people (meaning of life..)
 > on that I was thinking that there is 40 BA's to be fair. We will be expected to invite everyone...to be honest I really think everyone is intrigued enough by our group that most will want to come. Again I think a second show may be needed. Maybe a BA showing could be an invited dress on the Wednesday night?
Also spooky, weird, or uncanny. That Apparition show is on 17th May also. At 7:30!!! Good omen :)

Questionnaire to involve and  decipher the piece for the audience.
 > To decide which of type of dreamer they are;
-Ageing Dreamer - Blackbox
-Reflective Dreamer - Studio 3
-Struggler Dreamer - Studio 1
-Sexual Dreamer - Studio 2
-Travelling Dreamer - Hallways/Journey from theatre bar

Perhaps they are the titles. Then I think it can give us a bigger banner to work under? Also that is the final rooming for the pieces. I think its a good way to work 5 different questions with 5 answers. Subconsciously.
E.G:

Q1.
-Answer 1 relates to Ageing
-Answer 2 relates to Reflection
-Answer 3 relates to Struggles
-Answer 4 relates to Sex
-Answer 5 relates to Travel

Then we have an uncanny moment because we have hopefully taught them something by tapping into their subconscious. The issue of placement with the questionnaire is a BIG deal.
Do we want to break their concentration during the show, thinking about these questions will take an audience away from the immersive (i know people hate that word but its what we are doing) nature of our show.
Or some theory here for you guys,
Verfremdunksteffekt - The alienation technique coined by Bertolt Brecht.
The use of SIGNS and SIGNIFIERS to make sure an audience remains critically aware and unemotionally involved. The use of the Questionnaire could do that for us. As well as all the semiotics and visual elements we use. So we break and allow them to answer question 2 after room 4 for example. So we incorporate asking them to do that. And I am sorry but please read this definition of Verfremdunksteffekt...

http://www.answers.com/topic/verfremdungseffekt

It sounds like exactly what we want to achieve.
"aims at giving to familiar aspects of reality the appearance of being unfamiliar in order to arouse the spectator's critical judgement."

Reflective Room

The reflective room can be our own reflective dream. What I think might be nice also is to use that 3D effect in this room so say if we were to cover the rooms walls with material to project on to, then we can be behind and basically pushing against the material to add that ball hitting the screen from behind effect.

Wow. Brainwave. My head hurts now. But it kind of finally makes sense when I think of things in this way. Brecht-Freud. Match made in heaven? Perhaps.........?

Thoughts please :)

  1. Yes Timmy! I very much enjoyed being part of your brain wave! Sounds like a good idea, plus gives that extra layer of depth to 'educate' the audience in some way :)
P.s Brecht-Freud are a beautiful match but not as beautiful as the secret!

  2. I'm liking this Timmy! We really need to work extra hard from now til then I feel. Especially we need a day now to create the hallways' message and how we can structure these. All sounding very good and positive though. I LOVE the 3d idea that's exactly what I was imagining too. My only gripe is that I still feel we should TEST said placement of the quiz? Although Brecht is fitting with our idea, it is also a very different approach to what we have intended before. Like Dan said; the more we make the audience conscious of things, the less their subconscious is at work? Do you see what I mean. It's good for them to ultimately identify their subconscious feelings, but the more we question the less subconscious thought there is to identify?? Just a thought!! But lets get started on all this asap...can we bring some visualsssss!!?? GOOD JOB TIMOTHY!!!

  4. Just pics from the internet doll and books of art etc just to get us inspired and maybe some sketches of what we imagine? I feel this helps us get started quicker with rooms. VERY excited guys see you in the morning! x

  5. Nice nice nice... i'm kind of scared of Kelly's mammoth reading list!!! I like the names of the types of dreamer, that makes it more personal for the audience and shows that we are always thinking of them, I think that is why I like the quiz idea so much, because it is the first time we are showing that we are thinking of our audience, and we care what experience they have at our show.

  6. yes yes yes all very good apart from the invite thing i understand that yes they may be sufficiently interested but u must remember what most of our year is like at making an effort to come back at 8 for a show and leaving later that is my only issue but ho hum pigs bum we shall sort it in due course. i think that also naming the dreamers is a good idea like what eloise said about it being personal :) but i also think that what would make it even better would be gnomes and rumplestiltskin just saying ;) teehee
    see ya'll on the morrow
    xoxo
